Next Sunday, October 20, 2024, the municipality of Valdegovía will host one of its most anticipated events of the year: the 31st Potato Fair, which will take place in the charming village of Espejo. This event, which has become a tradition in the region, pays tribute to one of the area’s most emblematic products, the potato, with a day full of activities for all ages.
The celebrations will begin on Saturday, October 19, with the "Patata Fest", where the public can enjoy live music from the band The Soulers, starting at 10:00 PM at Casino Montreal, along with other events organized at the AMPA KARRIA Txosna.
On Sunday, starting at 10:00 AM, the streets of Espejo will come to life with the opening of the Producers and Artisan Fair, where visitors can buy Valdegovía potatoes and view an exhibition of different potato varieties. Attendees will also have the chance to take part in traditional Basque rural sports and enjoy music from the Gesaltza fanfare.
The fair will culminate at 2:00 PM with an emotional tribute to a prominent figure from Gaubea, followed by the traditional award ceremony for the largest potato of the fair, a competition that draws great anticipation every year.
The 31st Valdegovía Potato Fair promises to be a unique event to celebrate the agricultural heritage and traditions of the region. This event not only highlights the hard work of local farmers but also provides an opportunity to enjoy local gastronomy, rural sports, and artisanal crafts in a festive and family-friendly atmosphere.
Hundreds of people are expected to come to Espejo to enjoy a day where the potato will be the undeniable star.
